Every now and then I get an urge to start a project of no small scope or scale that involves a large investment of time and labor. Most often I drop-kick the urge back into the recesses of my brain where it sits growing stale and moldy and it eventually expires with a last, dry cough of defiance. This time, however, events have transpired that have me rescuing one of my erstwhile urges from the prison of my mind so that, in its free expression I might at once know the fulfillment of one of my many considered projects while also reinforcing a man’s right to make known his territory to others; peeing on the trees, so to speak.
Recently someone purchased a lot next to ours and, through willful disregard or blind happenstance, managed to clear a swathe of our trees as well as their own. And with encouragement from several sources I was convinced that I should DO SOMETHING. Hence, the project: to create a rock fence along the edge of the property that was cleared. After all, ‘good fences make good neighbors.’
As for material, due in no small part to the fact that this is the Texas Hill Country, I have a few rocks laying about that I can use to accomplish this task. As for time, I believe I can devote some small percentage of my weekends along with an occasional week night.
And so it begins with a 3 foot thick, 4 foot long section of fence that I started today. It is only a couple of layers deep at the moment. I want it to reach about waist-high. If you have suggestions, advice, criticisms, or comments, fire away.
